Register Here: Fall Wine & Cheese Event – Coming Soon!
Join us for a lovely Fall evening in the arboretum and learn more about the Virginia and Harrisonburg Urban Wood Utilization Programs while enjoying food and beverages that include ingredients derived from our beloved trees!
Learn from Virginia Department of Forestry’s, Joe Lehnen, and City of Harrisonburg’s, Jeremy Harold, about their organization’s efforts to create a program focusing on upcycling felled or damaged trees due to pests such as the emerald ash borer. These programs allow staff to be proactive in the removal of dead or hazardous, dying trees while making wood available to the public for purchase. Wood products are upcyled into art, furniture, landscaping products, construction products, and more. Learn about the Harrisonburg Urban Wood Utilization Program on their website.
The arboretum’s September art exhibitioners, Rocktown Urban Wood (located in Harrisonburg, VA), will be featuring wood products that are available for purchase at the event. RUW owners, Ned Gearing and Rhett Miles, will chat with guests about their products and how they support and participate in urban wood utilization efforts. Learn more about Rocktown Urban Wood on their website.
JMU Dining Services will provide delicious hors d’oeuvres that include ingredients derived from trees along with a variety of thirst quinching beverages for your enjoyment. Non alcoholic beverages will be provided and alcoholic beverage options will be available for purchase at our cash bar (registration includes one free beverage ticket upon entry).
Put this event on you calendar today. Registration information is coming soon!
