Make-Your-Own Charcuterie Board: Woodworking & Culinary Workshop
March 11 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm
The perfect way to close out the work week! Flex your creative muscles, with local craft beer, appetizers, and friends, as you transform a slab of local, reclaimed wood into a customized cheese and charcuterie serving platter.
– Voucher for 1 Brothers Craft Brewing beer
– Reclaimed wood board
– Bottle of mineral oil to take home for board maintenance
After selecting a piece of wood, participants will have the option to keep the shape of the board they’ve selected or use a pencil and ruler to outline their desired platter shape or add a handle. Volunteers from one of the many urban wood programs partnering with HDR on this workshop will cut out the boards while workshop participants are invited to enjoy a beer and hear from the Harrisonburg Public Works Urban Wood Program. Participants will learn the background of the wood they’ll be giving a new life to and the purpose and importance of Virginia urban wood programs.
Once the wood slabs have been shaped, participants will sand the edges of their freshly cut boards. The boards can be further customized with food-safe stains, metal handles, and wood burning stamps and pens. While treating their finished boards with mineral oil, participants will be invited to sample a spread of charcuterie meats, cheeses, and fruits provided by JMU Dining. A JMU Dining chef will close out the workshop with a brief presentation on how to build the ultimate charcuterie and cheese board at home.
