Charm, Relaxation at By the Side of the Road Inn & Cottages
Have you ever soaked in a luxurious bathtub in front of a roaring fire, while sipping on champagne or sparking grape juice, a fluffy robe waiting for you when you’re done? By The Side of the Road Inn & Cottages is like stepping out of your busy lives and into a haven or of relaxation.
On the property, there are three charming cottages that allow visitors privacy and relaxation only two miles from Downtown Harrisonburg and local EMU and JMU. Now for the first time in almost five years, rooms are available in the charming, historic Manor House (circa 1790).
Last summer, Anna and Jesse Bergey purchased the property from Anna’s parents, Dennis and Janice Fitzgerald, and have been renovating the space. Modern amenities are being added while preserving the historic nature of the house. New paint and new appliances make the Manor House sparkle. Once the project is concluded in early May, the Manor House will feature four suites, each with a queen bed, fireplace, and full bathroom with soaking tub. In total, the property will feature nine unique spaces – four suites in the Manor House, three cottages, and two suites in the building across the picturesque pond.
The Bergeys are already filling up Manor House suite reservations as Spring weather approaches. The Manor will feature a sitting room, and other cozy amenities.
The cottages serve as a romantic getaway for couples and a retreat for small families, while the Manor House will serve as an affordable option for families. The entire property is available for large parties to rent out for special occasions such as family reunions and weddings.
By the Side of the Road Inn & Cottages Lodging was originally established in 1999 as Harrisonburg, Virginia’s first bed and breakfast business. They do not currently serve food. The Bergeys hope to bring back breakfast soon.
