The Travelin’ Round is a recurring, touring showcase series that adopts the Nashville-style “Songwriter’s Round” format with an interview twist. For each locale it visits, The Travelin’ Round builds a lineup of the finest local songwriting talent.
The concept is simple: Four talented songwriters take the stage together, trading songs and sharing the stories behind them. Host Brent Funkhouser periodically chimes in with curated questions to give the audience a peak behind the curtain.
The result is an intimate look at the songwriting process and each writer’s identity as a songwriter and as an individual.
Brent Funkhouser (Host & Performer)
Brent Funkhouser’s style of achingly uplifting songwriting was born out of the river bends and mountain hollows of Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. His songwriting displays influence from classics like Tom Petty, Americana contemporaries like Jason Isbell, and Texas/red dirt songsters like Turnpike Troubadours, filtered through his mountain poet voice. The singer-songwriter has performed to hundreds of attentive audiences in nine states, opening for award-winning artists such as Judy Collins and Phil Vassar along the way.
Rev. Bill Howard
A veteran of the Virginia music scene, Rev. Bill Howard is a singer/ songwriter & lead guitarist for The Judy Chops. His songs range from contemplative folk tunes, to rock-a-billy ragers, with influences ranging from Hank Williams to John Prine & Tom Waits and more. Bill began playing and performing as a teenager, and has played countless shows throughout the last 25 years. When he’s not busy with The Judy Chops you can find bill playing solo shows, or with one of his many side projects. Stay tuned for a solo album coming in 2024!
Rebecca Porter
The Queen of the Local, Rebecca Porter is the cornerstone of Harrisonburg’s burgeoning Honky Tonk scene. Rebecca’s latest release, ‘Honky Tonks Ain’t For Heroes’ is inspired by her own battle with push back and discrimination in the world of country music and experiences growing up in rural Virginia, “Honky Tonks Ain’t for Heroes” is Porter’s anthem that country music is for everyone, gatekeeping is toxic and ultimately, that everyone is welcome here.
Corrie Lynn Green
Corrie Lynn Green writes and reflects the secrets and stories of life in a small holler town. Drawing from her deep roots in rural Appalachia, she walks down a path of self discovery through personal heartbreak, rebellion, hardship, joy and acceptance. Working with Philadelphia music producer Doug Fearn, Corrie Lynn’s debut album Blow Away was released in May 2022, with a new album in the works. As an emerging artist in the music world, Corrie Lynn is continuing to receive national recognition, including placing third in the 2022 Tucson Folk Festival songwriting competition.
